Sister Cities International was created at President Eisenhower's 1956 White House conference on citizen diplomacy. Eisenhower envisioned an organization that could be the hub of peace and prosperity by creating bonds between people from different cities around the world.

The Sarasota Sister Cities Organization proposes to develop a course with the Sarasota Military Officers Association on Citizen Diplomacy.  The two organizations share a number of members, including the two current Presidents of the organization.  Both organizations recognize that peaceful interaction is much preferred to armed conflict. Most of the membership of MOAA are veterans of foreign wars and are dedicated to the pursuit of peace.

The two organizations would jointly develop the course, to be taught both in the classroom and on line.  The course would be similar to the courses on the two internet sites below:

On line class prepared by a MOAA and Sarasota Sister Cities member.

On line course developed by the University of Wisconsin. Makes major use of on line videos.
